WHO WE ARE

Young Women Against Sexual Violence (YWASV) is an organisation which provides a network for women with lived experience of sexual violence to come together in a community in which they will be heard, believed and supported. We run events at art galleries, music venues and creative spaces throughout Perth in order to provide a platform for women to empower themselves and have their voices heard. Our events create spaces for women to share their stories and express themselves however they want to, whether that be through art, music, poetry, letter writing, storytelling or any other mode of expression.

YWASV also aims to educate the community and encourage all people to reflect on what consensual sexual relationships look like. We do this by holding our events in public spaces in order to engage the public in conversation on the normalisation of attitudes and behaviours which lead to sexual violence. We also hold workshops in which we analyse our ideas of consent and sexual violence, and reflect on the power of words to not only cause great harm, but also to heal.

YWASV co-founders Joey Lim and Micaela Rafel started this after having experienced sexual violence themselves and wanting a community of other women to connect with, as well as desperately wanting to do something about this issue.
